Can anyone with walnut (especially crotch walnut/black walnut) post their pics along with what accent woods/veneers that go well with it? Thanks!

this is the 3rd bow I made, I used Black walnut veneers over red elm tapers, I used walnut dymondwood for the riser.

this is a longbow I made with a walnut riser, riser has two .050 pieces of glass and curly maple stripe. I also used walnut veneers and red elm tapers in this one..

Walnut, love walnut. You should also look into Claro Walnut, it is often more figured!!

I have some curly walnut veneer, enough for at least 10 bows.. gonna start building a few in a couple of months..

In about 6 months I should have my Chek-Mate Hunter III which will have some of the fiddleback grain walnut blank, that I traded as partial payment for the bow, in the riser. The limbs will be made of yew. That piece of wood has been sitting around the house for about 20 years and its time had come.

Robertfishes what are the dimensions of that piece of walnut? What is the difference between fiddleback grain and curly grain in your opinion?

I set out a while ago to reduce my herd of 40 bows...And I am finally down to 42

My understanding is that Claro is generally not as dense or as strong as Black Walnut. And remember that figured walnut is generally not as strong as straight grain. I do have a very nice straight grained Claro stock (with just a hint of fiddleback) that my father made for me on a Sako .243 barrelled action built back in the 80's when Sako's were basically hand made.

Hey that reminds me I have a Timney trigger on order for that gun that I should check on tomorrow.
