...cost me an arrow anyway!

I was shooting at my bag from 15 yds few minutes ago, comparing fleched and bareshaft arrows using the ABS 250gr bullet points that came in the mail today.  I was wondering if they shot any different from the 250gr field points I'd been using.

The fletched arrow hit a bit high, and then sagged down over the middle of my well-worn bag target.  I thought the bareshaft sounded funny when it hit..and this is why.

So, does this mean my nock point needs to come down a bit?   ;)

Been there!  Ruined a good arrow doing that - now if my arrow sags in the way - I walk up and pull it out!

I had it happen once...when I first started shooting I had a hanger and didn't realize protocol was to pull it...heck, at that point in time I didn't think there was chance of even hitting it, but yep...I heard the dreaded noise and wasted a new CX Heritage arrow.

And yes...if bareshaft is hitting below fletched arrow it indicates a high nock point (unless for some reason some a shooting/form/equipment flaw is creating a false nock high reading.)  Good luck.

Yeah at tournaments when a bunch of us are shooting the practice bale someone would get a hanger like that & the mindset changes to who can hit that arrow!!

Thank God we're all friends.

For some reason those arrows that end up hanging down seem to be a magnet for any additional arrows shot their way.

My wife has a flower bed I have started using as a memorial for any arrows broken beyond repair and there are several in there that fell victim to the same situation.

I have also noticed that hanging arrows tend to draw our attention and that may contribute to their demise.

I'll get a picture of the arrow memorial and get it posted.

I just actually pulled off nearly the same thing the other day!  I've shot nocks off and ruined vanes through the years with my compounds.  I've been practicing with my grandpa's longbow for this season.  I mostly shoot 12yds, that's where I'm comfortable shooting a deer right now.  Low and behold I put the second arrow about two inches into the first!  If you look close at the pic of my son holding the bow and arrows, you can see a white ring around the tip of the arrow.  That's the nock from the carbon arrow it actually split and wrapped right around the shaft!  Looking at the picture reminds me I should probably be raking and mowing the lawn instead of practicing!

Great shot, Stefan!  So cool that you're using your grandad's longbow. Looks like it might make it 4 generations!  What is it?

And I ain't postin any pics of my yard...

Mudd, that's wonderful.  I wonder how many people smile every day driving by that?
