The last two bows I bought have bamboo limbs. While I like the way they pull, both seem to be noisier than maple limbs. I have heard that carbon limbs have a different pitch or sound when shooting. I'm wondering if the same is true with bamboo. What's your experience? Noisy or quiet?

James Wrenn

The design of the bow makes the noise, not the bamboo.Carbon does add a different pitch to the sound of any limb but how much still comes back to the bow design more than anything else.jmo
....Quality deer management means shooting them before they get tough....

I have bows with bamboo, red elm,yew and maple cores,I haven't noticed any one limb core that makes them noiser.Usally bow design and string material have more to do with bow noise.

I have an R/D bow with bamboo limbs with veneers. I have to say it was a dream to set up and is quiet to a fault. They pull smooth and are fast. I agree it has more to do with design then anything else.

I had my laminated bamboo Pronghorn out last night and was thinking how quiet it was with just a little "thump". I think it depends on the bow design.

I never hear a peep out of mine. I have to tell my maple cores to hush up every now and then.

James Wrenn has it right. Good design will minimize noise from most any material, but seldom does material overcome design shortcomings. Bamboo is my favorite limb material, but I'm a bit biased.

My best shooting and most silent bows have Bamboo cores or limbs of Bamboo!!

I shoot 2 different Howard Hills and both are very quiet.  I think there are a number of factors involved, but all and all bamboo is responsive and quiet.  One of my friends has a carbon/foam recurve and it does have higher pitched sound than bamboo.
Do not use a hatchet to remove a fly from your friend's forehead...when your longbow with a blunt will work!

as others have said, it's not the limb wood (or grass, as in the case of bamboo  :D ) that makes for bow noise, it's other factors such as improper use, bow design, and strings, as examples.
