It has been a long wait, but the Badlands Sacrifice pack is finally here.  I recently received my first shipment and have had a chance to actually get my hands on it for a good up close inspection.

This is one heck of a nice pack for those who enjoy bivy style hunting.  Cameron Hanes was involved in its development and initial feild testing.  The pack is designed as an extremely lightweight pack designed to carry everything needed for extended backcountry trips with as little weight as possible.

When empty, or with a minimal load, the pack compresses down to a very compact package, measuring just 22 inches from top to bottom.

The pack is built around a hardened stainless steel frame.  You can see part of the red frame in this picture along with the mesh back panel which provides great air flow between the pack and your back, keeping you cool when carrying.

The pack has a large main compartment which can be accessed from both the top and bottom.  There are four long side compartments, two on each side.  Plus a large bottom compartment.  A large top pocket and pockets on each side of the waist belt make good spots to store smaller items.

There is a small sling that tucks into the bottom of the pack which is used for long items like a bow or arrow tube.

Overall, this is a very well designed and thought out pack.  Plenty of straps and lashing points for additional gear should make it a great way to get everything you need into the backcountry.

One thing to be aware of is that in order to keep weight to an absolute minimum a lightweight nylon material has been used.  While great for keeping things light, it is noisier than the standard Badlands material you might be used to and not waterproof, so a rain cover might be a good accessory to consider.

Of course, the standard Badlands warranty applies.  If anything breaks for any reason, they fix it or replace it.  Any reason, for the lifetime of the pack.

Great review of a pack that has needed to be in the market for some time.

I was considering it however for backpack hunts is too small for long hunts and I am selling my 4500 to get a MR Crew Cab, but for shorter trips I have heard nothing but awesome reviews of this pack.

Seems like a perfect three night hunting pack if I ever saw one!
Give me a bow a topo and two weeks, and I guarantee I kill two weeks!

Very nice pack, if & when I can afford a mid west hunt I'll have to look this pack up.

I love my 2800 but the layout on this looks fantastic, and being a bit lighter, might be more versatile.

I had someone email me wondering about the capacity of this pack.  It is rated at 3,800 c.i. - pretty good size for extended stays in the backcountry.

Does the pack ride high enough (when loaded) so that the top attachments of the load lifters are above the shoulders? I have been waiting for this one as I like the size and weight.

Whip

Terry, yes, the load lifters can be cinched up to ride at the top of the shoulders.

Just sent you a PM Randy.  As a meat hauler, I think you might like the OX better.  It is also a little larger. But if you would rather have this one we can do that.

Man, I've been waiting for Badlands to combine these features since I packed out elk quarters with a 2200 5 years ago! Great looking pack and a sweathog like me needs the vented back! On my list...
Is it September yet?!
