I have a shakespeare necedah recurve that is 50# at 28". I am new to hunting and shooting with a recurve and I have quite a few Beman ICS Hunter carbon arrows with a 400 spine laying around. My question is: can I throw some feathers on these and shoot them through my recurve? How will they fly? They are cut to 28" which could be problematic if my draw on the recurve is longer than that.

If they won't work what should I be looking at? Thanks.

Figure out your draw length first, the arrows should be an inch or longer than your draw lenght for broadhead clearance.  Other than that start bareshaft tuning.  Do some searches on here about bareshaft tuning, you'll find everything you'll need to know and then some.

I sent you a link that was given to me about tuning. It has been a help to me, and I hope it is to you.

Figure your draw length first.  If the arrows are short you will be developing bad habits in your shooting form just to use them.  Not a good start for a newbie.

Unless you shoot a very heavy point, the 400s will probably be far too stiff.
.400 spine on a short shaft is a very stiff spine for 50 #.

Don't quote me on the exact weight but I would probably need a 250 gr or so head to make that arrow work out of a 50# recurve.

Keep in mind also, that you need 3/4" to 1" extra shaft length, beyond your draw, for safe broadhead clearance. If you have more than a 27" draw you will need new arrows regardless.
