To the Lamont Grainger benefit shoot this past weekend ?  There were a ton of folks there.  It was hot as heck, but not many bugs.  The course was awesome and I had more fun that at any other shoot so far.

I will post some pictures later on.

Well, some of you know Lamont.  He owns and operates The Footed Shaft in Rochester MN.  This is a traditional archery shop.  Lamont is pretty rich in the knowledge and history of our favorite past time.  Many folks know him and he knows practically everybody that has something to do with archery.  He is pretty free with his knowledge and I don't know a better man.  I hope I am considered one of his friends.

Lamont was recently diagnosed with cancer.  I'm kinda surprised he didn't just search his soul and tell the cancer to go jump, that he didn't have time for it, but I guess that's not how it works.

As some of you know, a benefit shoot was held this past weekend at the Rochester Archery Club.  It was a shoot unlike any I had been to before.  No, not unlike what I do at home, at my own range, but. . .  well. . .

The Club allowed the use of their range,  and it was awesome.  Hills,  trees, river, it had it all.  But we didn't use their targets.

We used jugs.   Big ones, small ones.  Heck some of the targets were the bottle caps suspended from cords and painted orange.

A few of the shots were wide open. .  but pretty far.

The rules were.     shoot from the stake, or anywhere between the stake and the target.  Suit your taste.

Of course, most of the shots were a bit less tame and involved little things like. .  trees and shrubs and hills.

Of course, I have to put in a plug for the maker of that beautiful bow being shot by a good friend's father, who recently got back into archery after a REAL long time out.

A large card was available, to be signed by those in attendence.  Kind of a big get well reminder that Lamont has a lot of friends.

This shot is taken in the early morning.  By days end there were few spots left open to sign.  Of course, with my planning I neglected to get a picture then.

Here are a few of the crowd, early morning.  By noon it was packed.  Not certainbut it appears, by guestimate, that there were over 200 shooters on Saturday.

The event was awesome.  Lots of folks were there wishing Lamont a speedy recovery.  I got to meet up with some friends and I got to meet several new folks.  I even got to shake hands with Mr. Zwickey himself.  What a crowd.

And I have to rub it in.  At least one person showed up with compound bow in hand.  Did we care. .  not a chance. .  but when he proceeded to lose ALL of his arrows due to no yardage posted and no range finder. . .  well. . . we giggled a bit.

Anyone else with pix, please post.
Get well Lamont.  and remember. .  three dozen 175 grain points for my Gold Tips. . .

I was at the fund raiser for Lamont also. It was amazing to see a bunch of people come together to support one of our local legends like they did Saturday and Sunday to support Lamont. Between the auction items and the drawings for the bows, I hope we were able to help someone who is very important to our sport. I am proud to say I was there to help someone I consider a friend. Keep going Lamont!
