I`ve used aluminum and steel inserts for broadheads and small game points. It`s a good way to get the weight you want. Many differant ways to get what you want.

As bushytail alluded to, a lot of it has more to do with getting the finished weight you're looking for.  I prefer to put as much weight/strength in the head and adapter as possible and then look at point inserts if more is still needed, but there really isn't a "wrong" way to do it.  Some combo's of the same weight will be stronger than others (which is why I prefer to put as much weight/strength in the point and adapter as possible).

We sell LOTS of adapters and they're split pretty even for aluminum versus steel.

I avoid aluminum. I use brass inserts only and for glue-on broadheads use Stainless Steel adapters as I have had too many carbon steel adapters bend. not taking any chances on a wobble after shooting the head.

The quest to improve is so focused on a few design aspects & compensating for hunter ineptness as to actually have reduced a bow & arrow's effectiveness. Nothing better demonstrates this than mech. BHs & speed fixated designs

Steel with brass exclusively.  A perfect marriage, love the weight forward and strength!  I've had the aluminum adaptors bend before, they do work well, but seem wimpy to me in the strength department.

Aluminum inserts - steel adapters - Just make really sure the adapter is screwed in tight.  No problems if their tight.
