Went to a used book store this weekend and found a book titled "Bowhunting Rutting Whitetails". It's a soft cover book that looks to be the same as my hard cover copy of "Hunting Rutting Whitetails". Same great pictures of Gene and Barry toting recuves and longbows in the mountains of Montana!! I snatched it up at the discount price of $3 bucks. It was virtually brand new! Anybody know anything about this book?

You should have gone straight to a casino - it was obviously your lucky day!
Great find.  I had the original soft copy but lent it out to someone I can't remember and never saw it again.  I have since picked up a used hard cover, but paid substantially more than $3 for it

The Holy Grail from what I understand...

I think I've heard less than a 1000 copies of the softcover original "Bowhunting Rutting Whitetails"

Great find!  Congrats!

That is a fact! It was the first printing then Gene changed it- Great find!!!!

Marty, I just got done reading the chapter in Barry's new book titled "Marty McMahon Legend or Loser?" It sure has to be good to have a famous friend include all your bowhunting highlights in print!!!  :bigsmyl:
To me, the ultimate challenge in bowhunting is not how far away you can succesfully make a killing shot but rather how close you can get to the animal before shooting.

Marty

Unfortunately, it was all true  :(  Never to be forgotten now that it is in print. I showed him up on BearQuest though! And got revenge with the loser Omelette in LaTuque! There's a picture in the BearQuest thread! He deserved it!
The real kicker is that he got over 9 minutes footage of that buck before he got to me-evey once in a while I get an anonymous picture of it in the mail. Even had a guy make it into a postage stamp! You gotta have thick skin to be in our group.

I know exactly what you are talking about Marty, I think the group I hang with is very similar.

Or to express it in one of the sayings often repeated by one of my buddies in connection with the stuff that seems to happen around our group:  "If you run with pigs yur gonna get dirty"!!!
 :D

   Beautiful Kudu by the way!!!

Hey Biggie, I noticed that you were prominently mentioned in the book also! It kind of looks like you all might have to write your own books so you can defend yourselves!!!   :biglaugh:
By the way, I would buy all of them as it is obvious that you guys are my kind of people based on the stories I have heard so far.
Congrats on the find Bob and sorry about taking the thread a little off track!

Congrats Bob. I'd call that a real find, at a great price. Now you gotta buy Gene's new book "Buckskin and Bone".  This book is an upgrade to "Bowhunting Rutting Whitetails". Gene has learned a lot since his original book went to press and tries to share his knowledge from experience with each of us in "Buckskin and Bone". Another great book and a must for your library.

Liquid Amber

A pretty scarce book and lists for around $300 on the used market these days.  Not a bad days work.

Marty

Thanks for squellin- I think I had him!

Bob Palmer

Marty, It's a rare day that I will pass on the chance to double my money...if I ever find another copy, I'll give you first dibs  ;)

Bill, I have Buckskin and Bone...in fact I thought I had all of Gene's Books...now I think I do! Been collecting deer hunting books since I was a kid! This was a great addition!!!   :)

Thanks Cliff...all those hours spent sorting through flea markets, Goodwills and used book stores paid off  :)  Still plenty of other titles out there to keep the hunt interesting!!!

Ha!  I started to do the same thing Marty and was afraid it would be taken wrong...  I laughed out loud when I saw your offer!

Indeed a great find...
