Young hunter's bow weight...

I was wondering what some of you guys who have brought up children think is the approximate age that one reaches to be able to pull back 35lbs on a recurve?  My boy thinks he won't shoot anything else but a recurve.  He's eight and has one that Mike Mecredy made for him that he loves and shoots quite often.  The minimum hunting weight here in Alabama is 35lbs.  I know it'll be a few years, but just curious what your thoughts are.  Thanks for any input.

My 6 year old is shooting at 25# right now, and is good out to 12 yards.  My 4 year old is shooting 18#, and is pretty decent at 10 yards.  Both are shooting longbows.  

I would have to think he should be ready any day now.  Just keep feeding him veggies, meat and milk.

It depends a lot on the youth. When my son was 12 he could pull about 38# with a 53# @ 28 recurve.
In California you have to be 12 to hunt Boar, he was 12 and two weeks his first kill, he executed a 17- 20 yard shot perfectly.

I'd say about 12-13. They not only need to be able to pull that weight but shoot it accurately and repeatedly. Give him some more time.

Age is what you make it.  I have seen ten year olds that should be out hunting, and 50 year olds that should never leave the camp.  When he is ready, you will know it.  He will consistently hit where aiming, form will be executed correctly, and you will see that fire in his eyes.

You will know when he is ready.
