Baby oil, takes sap off things nicely.

Grey Taylor

I've used acetone. It cleans the sap well and doesn't leave anything to intefere with topcoats or colors.

Im with guy , when you have that old pitch oosing out clean with acetone , it wont mess with your finish as it evaporates quickly

Just got 2 dozen shafts from 3rivers last week. Attached was a note stating to use acetone to remove any sap from the shafts.... So my vote is also Acetone...

I use Lacquer for dipping my shafts.  A quick rub of lacquer thinner will pull off any sap and the shafts will then dip just fine - clear or colored.
