Bow Rack question

I have a bow rack that I build that has 4 set's of pegs to hold 4 bows horizontally. It's the on that 3Rivers sells. Recently, I read that if the pegs aren't on the riser or fades, it could warp the limbs. That make sense? However, on my bows the pegs are on the limbs. I don't worry too much about my Savannah as I shoot it almost daily, but I don't want my recurve and other retired bows that don't get shot that much to get twisted limbs. Will this really damage them?

This is the rack:  http://www.3riversarchery.com/product.asp?i=6304

The pegs are about where they are on the bows in the picture on the website.

Thanks! Much appreciated.

Kiefer,

I certainly hope that this doesn't cause the limbs to warp. I have a couple thousand dollars worth of bows hanging on an all cedar bow rack that a friend of mine made for me.

I most generally only have one or two strung that are hanging on it......whichever two that I am shooting that week. The rest are in bow cases and are unstrung.

Thats the first that I have heard of it being a problem. Heck.....a person has to store them some way.

Okay, just wanted to make sure. It was the first I had heard of it myself.

The pegs just need to be in the same plane- in other words one level front to back with the other.

A tilted peg won't allow the limb to rest on it across its whole width if the other peg is not also tilted the same amount. If thats the case, not the best way to store a bow over time IMO.

I have seen bows hanging off of a hook vertically by the string (strung on the bottom and unstrung on the top limb - with top limb loop a few inches from the top) --- I hope am making sense here!

Can one store the bow in that way if I shoot it every few days?
Thanks

I make my own bow racks like this. Use a drill press to drill the holes for the pegs. That insures that they are square and in line on both sides. Then the bows will sit evenly and no problem with warping.
