Fast flight??????

I am looking for some advice as to what a Fast flight string would have to offer over a B-50 string. I have always been a B-50 guy but am wondering what the Fast flight would offer. The bow
is able to handle the Dyneema/Spectra material and I shoot an arrow that measures out to 10 grs per # of draw weight.

 Any advantages in quietness, speed,etc.?

The main advantages, to me, are lack of stretch and creep, and increased durability.  It can vary depending on the material, and how many strands you use in the string.

There's no huge performance or noise increase (if you compare apples to apples).  Proper tuning and silencer placement is, in my experience, where you will make a difference with noise.  How the string is made (regardless of material) can also make a difference in noise.

Short answer:  longer lasting string that doesn't vary in brace height nearly as much.

Look up SBD Bowstrings. They have strings all the way down to 6 strands (for use in a bow up to 53#). Then look at Stu Miller's dynamic spine calculator and see the difference in speed between a 6 strand or 8 strand fastflight and a B-50 string. You might like what you find out.

I have always hunted with B-50 as well, but I am tuning a bow for fastflight after messing around with some 8 strand strings.

I am also switching to a 6 strand on my 50# bows to see how much better it can get.

Something to keep in mind.  Going with a tiny string somewhat negates the gains in durability and lack of stretch/creep.  I've heard/seen reports on speed gains that go both ways--very little gained to a noticeable difference.  My experience is minimal speed gain, but I don't shoot less than 10 strands.  This is in comparison to 14 strands of the same material.  You might see more difference in say 6 strands of 8125 vs. 16 strands of dacron.

FWIW I base my opinions on the thousands of strings I've made, customer feedback, and my own shooting.  I also get a lot of advice from World Champion archer and string guru Rod Jenkins.

The longer the bow the more advantage you will see.Because longbows have the whole string moving the full stroke you will see more speed increase than with a recurve.

As far as apples to apples go.Testing the strings based on string strength you will always see some increase in performance.How much will depend on bow type/length ect.I typically see between 8 and 12fps increase but have seen much more when the bow had a overbuilt string on it in the begining.The durability difference is enough for me but the smaller string is always quieter on any bow I shoot that used a fat b-50 string. Being able to get simular performance from a bow 5 or more lbs lighter just by changing a string does not hurt anything either. :)jmho
