Stickbow Definition Please (not a What is trad archery thread)

This might seem like a dumb question. But I'm going to ask anyway....What is a STICKBOW?.
I thought a stickbow was a bow made from a single piece of wood. Lately I've seen a lot of laminated and veneered bows being called stickbows.
So here I am shouting out my ignorance now so that I might not look so ignorant at the wrong time...lol

Any bow that's just the bow and the string.

There's a heap of different catagorys though.
Longbows,one piece,two piece,3 piece,English longbow,American flat bow,modern R/D bow(called a longbow by some),as well as verious native styles and designs.
Depending on who you are and where you live and how much money you have to lose,only one of those is a real longbow,or they all are.
Recurves,again heaps of different styles and designs.

I guess I'm old school because to me a stickbow is just that... a stick and string. I wasn't ever good enough to call the things I made "for real bows", I carved on sticks so they'd accept a string and fling an arrow. To me that's a true stick bow. I know that's old thinking and it's just my opinion. I guess that's ok because my feelings aren't bothered by what you or anyone else calls them.

I'm guessing it must be important to someone. Please tell me if that's true and if so why?

The all wood bow you are think about is a "selfbow".  A stickbow has become a trad bow of any kind.

Any trad bow is a stick bow seems to be todays definition.  When I was a kid, mudds definition fit the bill.  As I grew up a bit it became any bow made only of wood, no glass or carbon.

But lately I was seeing a lot of writing contradicting that thought.

What about WE get to decide? WE're the "experts". Around here an "expert" is anyone who's more than 50 miles from home!
Unless of course WE CAN'T decide/agree. To me(a newby) there's 2 choices - Stickbow and wheels. As long as there's no wheels, it would classify as a stickbow (or stikbow). Under the stickbow designation are the full range of OUR bows - long, self, recurve, hybrid, ETC. To me stickbow is the big overall category.

Tom, you are very right. We each DO get to decide for ourselves.

When I'm explaining myself to newbies I explain to them that this is just how I think about bows and there are other schools of thought on the subject and as they gain knowledge they will want to decide for themselves how they will want to categorize stuff.

For me it's stickbows, tradbows,and modern traditional(hybrids), wheelies.
I can count the number of times I've spoken of crossbows on my hands and toes, they just don't come up very often...lol

In my vocabulary, a stick bow is any of several varieties with one distinguishing feature (or rather, lack thereof).  No training wheels.

Steve Fausel said that a selfbow is a bow that relies on nothing but it self. Just a stick, with a string..
(No wheels, stabilizers, sights)

I guess to me a stick bow would be a one-piece bow with no interchangeable parts..
(stabilizers/sights etc.. probably mostly wood?)

I am of the opinion though, that there should be clear definitions to our terminology, if not only to avoid confusion and quarreling..

So if anyone could, with a well thought reason, define the word, it would be great!

there are longbows, recurves, and self bows. if people would just use the terms that describe the bow why would there be any confusion?

The story of the Iceman of the Tyrolean Alps in Italy carried an unfinished yew staff, rumor is he was looking for tools to finish the first stickbow, or was it stykbow.
