When re-placing a nock or field point, do you remove the old glue first? Or does it matter?

Thanks.

When replacing a nock I clean the taper with sandpaper (80 grit works), apply fresh glue and fit nock in place. Removing old glue prevents getting the new nock on crooked.

I don't feel it matters much on field points unless I have reason to suspect oil contamination. (point pulled off of shaft)

If I need to clean up the point taper I usually just recut the taper lightly.
