I grew up in East county and loved it. You will too. Lot's of places to stump shoot and there are shooters out there. There is more stuff to do in San Diego than any other city I have been too. ENJOY IT!

Im a memebr of bearstate it is a beautiful place to shoot there is a fun shoot the 22nd of august. The lake has great crappie fishing that time of year and the area is awesome. If you want to meet there to shoot the fun shoot let me know ill make arrangments to attend that one.

Can't blame you for looking for some shooting action but I'd advise doing that ONE day and spend the rest with your wife's family.  If you bolt everyday they will definitely know you don't like them and you will pay dearly the rest of your life.

Find some common ground with your father in law and have some fun with him.  Otherwise hold your nose and pretend you are having fun.  Don't ruin the trip for your wife.

Good advice on devoting some more of yourself and your time to your family (yes, inlaws are family) - especially your wife. I learned the lesson the hard way and I conduct my behavior now with more grace. Like some have said before if you give yourself a chance by being positive you might like it!

She'll remember it forever - Good or bad...your choice!

The warm sunny beaches of San Diego? Oh, the horror!

I'd get on my knees and thank God they don't live in Fresno, Bakersfield, Los Banos, or a myriad of other places in California that really do indeed suck.

Now if it gets too intolerable there's an Orca you can swim with at Sea World!

Julian is an awesome place!I spent many weekends around there and Anza-Borrego state park when I was stationed at Miramar.I'd love to go back there for a week or so.

There's a TON worse places in CA it could be...

It's simple

I was coerced into a trip to see my inlaws this year in Florida. After I protested my wife suggested that I go hog hunting with my son in law during our stay.I cant wait to see them!

reddogge

I hope my son in law doesn't think along these lines....then again...I'm such a fun guy.  I have him buffaloed into thinking I REALLY know how to catch fish when he goes with me.  In reality he is the Irish lucky charm.  He and I have fun together, fishing, playing golf and drinking beer.  I'm blessed.

I went to that general area for a wedding (wife's family) in August of last year.  Tons to do.  I would love to go back.  No sympathy here.    ;)

Thanks for all the advice guys. I do have a Kodiak Magnum which could be short enough to take on the plane. Usually I shoot longbows. Does anyone know if you can carry on a short recurve? There is a lake good for fishing not to far away.

Yes, I want to keep the wife happy and will probably have to bite the bullet. To use the pop psychology term, the in-laws have "boundary issues" or no respect for the privacy of others. Try spending 4-5 days in a small cabin with the in-laws, wife and two small kids. It is enough to drive anyone up a wall. That is what I did last summer. Anyway, that is what I have to deal with.

just ship the longbow to your in laws a few days before you head out.

I'm with Earl E. and Mudd on this as well.  Besides do you really want to take a chance of your bow getting lost or broken between Maryland and San Diego?  You probably wouldn't have much time to shoot anyway.  We all know how family vacations go.

Yea and think about what you can do for your in-laws.  Loving on them will honor your wife and make things a lot better at home.

Against the grain a bit here - regardless of relationship, I will only show limited respect to those who will not respect me. Do what you need to do so it does not grow to an even bigger issue down the line.

k. sisco

I have tried for years to get along with my inlaws, but not anymore.Respect goes both ways.
Support your wife, but if your inlaws are people you don't care for tell your wife you will go but don't expect you to fake whats not there.
Tell your wife to go enjoy HER family and you will do your own thing.
Always has worked for me,I can't fake whats not there.
Good luck,

Ken
