Wyoming's Grey's River area for mule deer?

I've been wanting to hunt the Grey's River area of western Wyoming for several years now. Anyone have any info on the area or know of any local contacts I could talk to for info. Not really looking for an outfitter, but more of a DIY backpack hunt. Would consider an outfitter drop camp scenario.

I hunted that area back in '79 so my info is dated.  There are some big muley's in the Bridger-Teton National Forest. Just get back in and away from the road hunters. Contact Wyo F&G. Talk to the mule deer biologist for the area your interested in. Order maps,etc... Good Luck.

I've hunted the Grey's numerous times.  Really a fairly easy area for a DIY backpack hunt, if you are in pretty good shape. And I say fairly easy to hunt as there are numerous trailheads all along the Grey's River Road and the Little Grey's to jump off of.  Still some big deer (and elk) in those parts.  I started hunting the area in 1980 and it sure is a lot more popular these days.  Probably the hardest part for a non-resident will be drawing a tag.

We offer hunts for the east side of the Wyoming Range.  Mule Deer region H, Units 142, 153, and 154.  The top three mule deer units in the state are 144, 142 and 154.  144 is just west of us in Region G in Lincoln county and that is the Grey's River Unit. Lincoln County is one of the top county's for mule deer in the world. There are still some giant mule deer there.  You can access the Grey's River road heading east out of the Town of Alpine Wy.  In our hunting area of the Bridger Teton National Forest, the Big Piney Ranger District does not permit outfitters to do drop camps.  Drop camps have historically been a source of complaints for the Ranger District, I am guessing because drop camps are a low priority to the outfitters and clients paying full price get first consideration.  There is one outfitter remaining that has been grandfathered in that can still offer drop camps. After having 4-6 guys a week in the same  tent, week after week, hunting on foot with no horses, all the game gets pushed away from that camp and after a few years of that he has not been able to book that camp with more than a couple hunts a year.  You can see how that practice could generate some complaints.  Otherwise there are no outfitters permitted to do drop camps on the Pinedale side of the Wyoming range. I cannot speak for outfitters on the Jackson district of the Bridger Teton.  They may be able to do a drop camp for you. They have a different administrator and different rules.
