are there any disadvantages to using fiberglass  fish arrows in a 100# bow? i plan on bareshafting to tune and should be easy to get 1000g plus....but are there any problems with them? posted this on dangerous game forum but figured more people are here. thanks

cacciatore

If I remember well Monty Browning used such kind of arrow for hunting, not sure if it was used alone or inside a Aluminum shaft. His arrow then was1200g.

want to just shoot, not hunt, and wondering if i can go cheap with the fish arrows as long as they are appropriate.

I know some fish arrows have a small hole drilled towards the back of them that may be an issue for strength,i've got some 6 foot long driveway markers that are very strait about 23/64's wide and they'll work outta 100# bow(you can make 2 arrows from 1 rod)and depending on length and head they'll go 1000 gn.

Not sure what spine is on fish arras,if they aren't stiff enuff, check your farm supply store for fiberglass electric fence posts. Ours has some bigger than fish arrows. You'd have to taper them for nock and point somehow tho.....
Stay sharp, Kenny.

not dead set on the fish arrow ...i would cut the back to length eliminating the hole...but they are  a lot  cheaper than 2219/1916 .

Full length standard 5/16 32in shafts spine out about 50/55 or so but that is with a 250-275fr fish tip on them, with a lighter weight broadhead they would definitely increase, but you would definitely have to cut them down.  Monty was cutting his to 28in I believe and they shot well off his 70'ish # longbows.  Just have to experiment.
They'll be no quitters till we bag us some critters!

They will not be stiff enough unless cut short.I have to cut mine back some for 45-50lb fishing bows. One of the ones that is sleeved with an aluminum arrow would be a better option if you want to shoot them from heavy bows.jmho

btw..they are pressed into a 2213 shaft.
....Quality deer management means shooting them before they get tough....

kuch get ahold of big jim. i think he was shooting them out of a 90# bow last year. he could give you a lot of info on the ups and downs if any.

WOW. Kuch, you must have some BIG Fish down there in WV.  Your set up should definately send an arrow deep into the water.  Hope you can find an arrow stiff enough.
