Jeff Massie made a few "Longhorn" take downs before he got out of the bow making business. Who out there, besides myself, has one of Jeff's TD "Longhorns"? Just curious.   :wavey:

Thanks "Harl". I remember that bow. I believe that was the last bow built by Jeff Massie. It sure was purty. Course you only buy purty bows. I'll take your seconds anytime.  :D

I don't have a Massie Longhorn, but I've got the very first 68" Longhorn made by Jim Belcher. Longhorns are very nice hybrid longbows.

Jim makes a fine Belcher "Longhorn". Jim and Jeff Massie go way back. That is why Jeff sold him the forms for the "Longhorn".

I looked on Belcher bows web site for the "Longhorn" and he offers it starting at $ 490.00 for plain jane and up for all the bells and whisles. With dymondwood riser and actionwood limb cores for that price. Looks like a great deal to me! Is Belcher's bows finished as good as Massie's? Ken

i have seen Jims work. he does a great job. I also used to own a longhorn also, I think myself Jim does just as good a job as Jeff did.

No doubt that Jim builds a fine bow but who out there owns a Massie TD "Longhorn"? As I said earlier Jeff did not make many "Longhorn" take downs. I'm just trying to determine how many were built and how many are still in the marketplace. At this time I know of maybe "5".
Thanks for your help.  :archer:

Bill,

I have a Massie TD "Longhorn" that Jeff built for me. It's 66", 57#@28.

What kind of TD system did Mr. Massey use?  I have 3 of his Longhorns, but had no idea he made takedowns.  BTW, I had Jim Belcher refinish one of them.  Someone had superglued a leather grip on the riser, and someone had tried to scrape it off with a knife or something.  Great job of refinishing.

I believe he used a bevel lock system with a small screw added for extra strength. I've heard that he worked with the bow bolt system as well. I also know that Jeff discouraged buyers from ordering a heavyweight TD (over 65#). Like I said above there were not many made. I can now account for 5. Thanks for your response to date.
