With all this talk lately about bow strings I have a question..what is the difference between Stretch and creep..stupid maybe?

Oh  I thought you were starting a new comic strip . . .  like  Ren and Stimpe,  Beavis and Butthead . . .

stretch - how much a fiber strand or bundle will stretch under a specific load, and whether that stretch is permanent or semi-permanent.

creep - how much a fiber strand or bundle will continue to stretch under a specific load, and whether that creep is permanent or semi-permanent.

That would be a good one wouldn't it..could be about a couple of elderly bow hunters?  They could have some buddies..snap, crackle and pop..

A simple way to picture it...

stretch is like pulling a rubber band--retracts when the tension is removed

creep is like pulling on abc (already been chewed) gum--doesn't retract when pressure is removed

stretch - how much the fibres themselves move in themselves.

Example... Dacron strings, even with all the fibres locked together will still elongate due to the stretch of the individual fibres.

Creep - how much the fibres slide/move against each other.

Low stretch strings can still elongate if they aren't made correctly because the fibres will slide against each other instead of locking together thus making the string longer.
