Years ago I used to read Bowhunter magazine and really enjoyed Magie's Meandering.  It was funny.  I haven't read Bowhunter for quite some time and was wondering if Ol' John "Magie" Mcgee is still writing?    Does anyone know if there is a book or something that contains a lot of his storys?  I've been reading Traditional Bowhunter and books on bowhunting lately, but I could stand a good laugh.  :biglaugh:

There are a couple of books that I have seen at B&N.

I've tried to Google books by him but can't find anything other than "Bowhunter" Mag.  I hate to buy or subscribe to the magazine just for one article.  There isn't much else in it that I want to read.

IMO humor and wit are sorely missing from most hunting stories in general.  trad bowhunters ask very little from our writers.  Dean Torges is an example of a tradbow writer that had his act together.  He was a good read.  Humor, wit, and good story teller

The older I get, the more I meander.

Last year I picked up a Bowhunter mag at a bookstore and he is still writing articles.
He was the speaker at a Lone Star Bowhunters banquet I attended back in the early 80's, we were all holding our sides the whole time.

I think most of his material was real life stuff.....maybe a little extra thrown in.  I loved the nicknames....Bearbreath, Owlface, Ol' Man, Dumb Bunch, etc.

Craig Schoneberg

He had a couple paper back books "The Best of Maggie" published in 1985 by Blue-J Inc. Ft.Wayne, IN  and "Almost Bowhuhntin'" also in 1985  Library of Congress Catalog Card Number 85-70406 and 85-70407.

Been a long time since I've read them - think I'll start on them again tonight.  It's time for a little laughing.

Thanks for the info.  I'll have to pick up a copy of these if they are available.
I found this on the web... :smileystooges:
