Sleepingbear, the bow is a Ron Maulding Big Horn. Chuck, the broadhead is an oversize tie on made by a buddy in a machine shop.

I've still got the bow...can't shoot it anymore. Maybe if I trained up a bit I could, but I don't want to..   "[dntthnk]"

So you see, the idea has been tossed around to the point that it is considered old hat.   :D

Long, long afterward, in an oak I found the arrow, still unbroke;
And the song, from beginning to end, I found again in the heart of a friend.

Hickory or hedge? The recent issues of Primative Archer showed the natives on New Guinea shooting  arras similar to what your talking about.

My, my... Some people just have tooooo much time on their hands...     ...

* Thinking about it, I remember one of the "Raiders" movies showing natives shooting very long arrows off of short self bows. That was kinda cool. *

I think you need to call Gary Sentman and get the bow he used to shoot them. His 176 lb longbow to a maximum 28" draw

Theres a guy that comes to Mojam every year and shoots the old english long bows with horn nocks and made of Yew. Most are 120# to 160#  :scared:

He shoots some very large arrows with home made Bodkin points on them and they wieght 2000 grains total. He shoots his bows in the clout shoot and they are pretty impressive.

Ron, You alway have the best picks  :bigsmyl:

You really haven't hunted the old fashion way until you've done it from one of these Indian houses.(The Tipi) "Glenn ST. Charles"

Kevgsp,

That would have been what I'd have stubbed my toe trying to find... interesting stuff, when taken in the overall view of the cosmos, eh?  :)

That's John from New Melle, Mo.
John builds his own bows and forges his own bodkin points. Heck of a nice man, very knowledgeable. I once made the remark that I'd love to try shooting some arrows tipped with his bodkins and a package showed up at my house with 3 bodkin points. I still haven't found a shaft I'd trust to stick them on..lol

I just read a post last week posted by Mr. Rob, in reference to Doc Ashby. Read it twice and didn't save it. And of course now I can't find it. I'm sure it had something to say about EFOC that was in use long long time ago.
Big, Big Long arrows with spears for tips.
Yea, I think it will work.
I've been working with some bamboo shafts, drilling the point end and sticking metal deep down inside and then 150 to 200 gr trade points up front.
Now i'm telling you these arrows cruise thru the air to target.
I'm getting old, I've nothing else to do.
