Aftermarket Bear T/D Risers

I know there are after market Bear T/D system limb makers, but is there anyone out there building after market riser/handles, or are they still patent protected?


If not patent protected - is anyone making the T/D latches?

If you want a Bear T/D Riser you'll have to buy a Bear T/D Bow. No one has matched the latch system that Bear owns the rights too............

I have a Rose Oak riser and have made a few latch systems (working on two risers now)  Converting the Rose Oak to the latch is relatively easy.  You swap out the bolt seat for one w/ an integrated thumb toggle (like on the original Bear patent, which has expired) then add the yoke and latch.  I have to check later to see if the Bear latch 3Rivers sells will fit the riser... if not I'll make a new jig.

Just checked.  The Bear latches (and the replacements 3Rivers sells) will fit on the Rose Oak riser... the yoke will have to be stepped down to accept it, but there's plenty of clearance.  At $70 for the latches plus $2 or so for the steel for the yokes it's not cheap though.  Of course, if you can make the yokes, you can make your own latches, and that cuts the cost down to under $10 and some time.  The only difference would be the thumb toggle instead of the spring catch.

I made an aluminum test socket with the spring catch... what a PITA to make in the shop!

Pretty sure the "Rights" have run out. (17 years from date of patent or 23 years from date of application.) However they do own the tooling, and without "Hard Tooling" the bed for the woody would be difficult to make.. To make the tooling it would just be expensive.
Remember too it can't just be functional, it has to be pretty, and durable.
