owl bow shooters. What kind of brace hgt are you shooting?

I stand corrected: 4 7/8 right now.  And it's whisper quiet too.  Mine is a 60" sinew backed white oak bow.  They won't all be the same and they sure won't be any 7-9" like a fiberglass bow would be.  Great bow!  I love it.

man that's low...I like a low brace height but usually try for 6"...much lower than that will usually cause wrist slap for me... I know some of the MoJam crew uses 5 1/2" but it doesn't work well for me.

man I have about 6 1/2 . My bow is 50" long and looks like a recurve and in order for me to get the string off the limb it has to go easy 6 and a half. It is shooting great . I know Ed makes a couple of different bows. There is no way I could shoot 5 or under. Thanks

I didn't think mine was that low, but I just measured it.  I shoot it several shots every day and love it.  I have noticed that I tend to hold it with a bit of a bend in my wrist that I don't with a modern recurve or longbow, so that may be why it doesn't bother me.  I get a touch of string occasionally in weird angle shots, but nothing bad.  And the accuracy is second to none.  I am well in a kill zone to almost 20 yards, and I just don't shoot beyond that anyway.  I suppose the string has streatched a tad over time, so I may take it back up and see what happens.  Thanks for calling my attention to it!

I just found this thread. Whatever works is okay but generally recommended is 5.5-6.5".-The 'bush bows usually around 6.5",the "Hunting bows" and longbows right around 6" and the Horsebows 6" or a bit less.

wahoo

thanks tree. What spine arrows are you shooting out of what size bow. poundage, draw , weight ?

Tree man

Wahoo, Usually I shoot 28.5-29 inch arrows amo spined at my actually draw weight (at 27 inch draw-my drawlength. I.e. I shoot 50-55 spine shafts from my 53lb Owl. 40-45 lb spine shafts from my 45lbers with 125 grain points or 45-50 lb spine shafts from the same bow with 160s. As always whatever works is right but generally if straight number matched spine and drawweight aren't right the answer is usually either lighter spine, longer shafts or heavier points.

Thanks Brittman, that is a great help. It looks like I need to increase the brace height a little and probably try to find some 40#-45 woodies.
