Kids Bow ?

Im gonna try again (got a HD gift card for xmas) my ? is is doing multiple lamination's of thin wood better than a solid piece.and what wood can be bought at HD that would be good for this.I did red oak and that had problems now Im scared of the red oak(Kidding)I know this should go to the bowyers bench but those guys go beyond what Im doing.
