Great!  I'm still hoping for my draw.  Maybe some day I'll get a chance to experience something as exciting.
The season gave him perfect mornings, hunter's moons and fields of freedom found only by walking them with a predator's stride.

I can't help but wonder what he would have done if he had wounded that animal - he didn't have another arrow to finish the job if it had gone wrong!

What if he'd hit its spine and paralysed its back end?  How were they planning on dealing with a bad situation?

Will we now see more people going out after big game with just one arrow?

freefeet, no, probably not.  That is a good question however.  I think I would have gone back and rearmed before continuing the hunt.  That's an individual call, however.  One of the guides with him was Jimmy, a retired warden with the Maine warden service.  I know what Jimmy D. carries with him so the animal would no doubt have been put down quickly if necessary.  Moose hunts are either weapon--gun or bow. It sounds like a great hunt.

I talked to Todd last night so I have the accurate story about why he
had one arrow. On Thursday he shot at a big bull and was sure he killed it. Everyone at the local diner watched the video of the shot and presumed it was a heart shot and a dead moose. Todd only has a four arrow quiver so the next morning when they went to look for the moose he grabbed his quiver with three arrows, one of which was a judo, and went off to find his dead moose, even though Eldon thought the shot was too low....which turned out to be the case. The drive to the moose hunting zone where Todd had to hunt was about a 40 mile trek so when they did not find the bull Todd wounded the previous afternoon they resumed hunting and did not want to go all the way back to town for one more arrow. Later that morning Todd got another shot at a 60" bull which turned as he shot which resulted in a miss and a lost arrow. He now had one arrow, late in the day. It was continue to hunt or stop for the day because to make the round trip before dark was impossible. Todd only had one more day left to hunt so they continued to hunt and the story unfolded as it did.  My only question to  Freefeet is, if you had several shots and misses at an animal and had only one arrow left in your quiver, would you shoot it or not? And Dave is right, they had a firearm on hand so if the moose was wounded, as you suggest, they had options. What I do on a hunt like that is keep an arrow box with me at all times just for situations like that. You never know when you will come up short.

I was hunting caribou in Labrador with Eldon several years ago. I did not know it at the time but I had a cataract in my dominant eye and my shooting was somewhat erratic, especially on the first shot. Then my brain would adjust and my second shots were always where I needed them to be. I got into the same situation as Todd after a few misses. I had one arrow left and one caribou in front of me. I shot and killed it. Stuff like that happens.

No, i definitely would not.  Even more so if i'd lost all my other arrows to misses and wounds i most certainly would not have shot that last arrow.

I have know Eldon for quite a while, and he is a very good shot with the LB.

He use to win a lot of 3Ds up north. I have shot with him a number of times and it's fun trying to keep up with him and his long legs lol.

Congrats on the Moose and thanks for sharing.

Great moose. Congrats to Todd! Hunting moose in Maine or Alaska is on my bucket list.
