Kodiak Hunter help!

I shot a Bear Kodiak hunter tonight, 45@28, I pull to 29.5 or 30". Used 2117 32" long with 145 grains  [Bear Razorheads] on the front. Shot great !
Some questions, the bow is gwith a blue stripe, 60" and is marked Grayling Michigan with a serial number of KTO3866. How old is this bow? How would this bow do for whitetails with the above setup? Am I hurting the vintage bow drawing to 30"? Thanks.

The bow was made in the early 70's. With that weight and your draw length, you should be able to shoot through just about any whitetail you run across, IMO.

I bought one off **** for my son-in-law a while back that has green glass, white handle overlay, and a green riser stripe.  It was made in the 1970s before Bear moved to FL.  Your setup will work on any deer if you hit them in the vitals.

any way to tell by the ssn what year it was made exactly? What about the setup, seem right?

+1 on that date.

As long as the limbs are fairly clean your good to go for say...... the next 30 years! I have 2 hunters, 1967, 1969 the 69 is my primary hunting bow.

no cracks i can see looks like light lines in the fiberglass light lines of light coloration but no cracking in the glass or anywhere else. Were these bows made to draw 30?

seems to have a few minor scratches, could anone post a pic of stress craks so i have a point of reference between a scratch and a crack?

Kodiak Hunters made with green "Futurewood" and the blue stripe were made between 1973 and @ 1976.   If it has white overlays on the front of the grip it was made in '73, '74, or '75.   In 1976 the overlays were changed to colored futurewood.

Elbow forget draw length it's a guide bowyers use to "hit the mark" for requested weight. I have a 30 inch draw and have shot bows rated for a 26 inch draw. Shoot what feels comfortable and yes your good to go with that hunter.

You are correct sir the date in this case is mostly in the overlays, I may have spoken too soon.

the overlays on the front [faing away from me as I draw] on the riser are not whit, they are greenish, that would make it a 76 correct?

I have a 76 Kodiak Hunter that is 50#@28. It's a great shooting bow that I've hunted with on occasion. I would be using it this year had I not found a Super Kodiak that I like just a little better.
