Couldn't get started hunting for awhile this morning. This sunrise was to beautiful to miss. It makes it all worth being out there with bow in hand watching the world awake!
Live simply. Love generously. Care deeply. Speak kindly.

I love how the forest comes alive in the morning!  it never gets boring and never fails to take my breath away.
Chasing my kids and my degree for now but come next fall the critters better look out.  ;)

Just awesome!! Funny how some people never see this and others never knowing what it truly means. Thanks for sharing..

Saltydog

Yesterday was our 1st day of archery season. When I left the house at 6am in was foggy so there was no real rush to get to my spot. I sat on the side of the hill looking east towards the mountain, leaned back against a tree and felt the damp air washing my face. As the light started to bleed through the mist birds sang to the glory of a new day and I gave thanks for the privilege of being there.

I knew I should not linger if I wanted to get to my blind but it was like I was rooted to the ground and I really didn't want to leave. About 5 minutes later it was almost like my eyes played a trick on me. Did that shadow about 25 yds. away just move? Like an apparition the shadow became more distinct then faded away. Then it appeared again but this time in a different spot. A waft of breeze lessened the density of the fog to reveal a blackbear slowly lumbering along now less than 15 yds from me. After another couple of steps the breeze also revealed my presence to the bear and he disappeared back into the fog.

That made my day a successful day and I spent the rest of the morning cherishing my first hour in the woods. Every day I spend hunting, I never come home empty handed.
I've learned that walk in the woods with my father as a child did wonders for me as an adult.

Killdeer

That is the essence of the hunt, to me, Saltydog. Follow the cues of nature, follow my heart, and receive the gifts. It is, indeed, a privilege to be there, any part of the day.

Long, long afterward, in an oak I found the arrow, still unbroke;
And the song, from beginning to end, I found again in the heart of a friend.

What Killdeer said. Went out this morning trying to get an antelope; instead, took a nice hike, watched antelope chase each other, had a couple of young bucks come up close to look at the decoy. No shots at anything I wanted to shoot at, but a great morning in God's country.

Every hunter understands this (I hope). It is a beautiful world out there.

Yesterday morning I watched a spider build a web. I was in my stand and I saw my friend the barred owl, a flock of turkeys and the industrious spider. But no deer.

The last few times out I have been playing cat-and-mouse games with a big doe. She has been in range a few times, but has not presented me with a broadside shot. She didn't show up yesterday, but I had a great time anyway.
