Any New Yorkers going after turkeys? There seems to be a lot of turkey activity right now. I'm giving it a try tomorrow. Just paid my $88 fee for my license so I figure why not get my monies worth out of it. Hopefully it will take the edge off for the start of deer season.

Made up a couple new arrows. Going for a more traditional look. I got a real good vibe from these arrows when I was spinning them.Sitka spruce with Snuffers. About 530 gr. I'm looking for broadhead recommendations. I'm looking for something a little heavier.

Here is where I'm going. Beautiful piece of property. I've been scouting and stumping here all year but the fall is really when it gets nice. I'm very lucky to have some great friends and to live in such a beautiful place. I hope everybody has a great season.

My blind is on that point.

Do yourself a favor and use a big multiblade broadhead.  I use a snuffer, has more cutting area for a small vital area. Get em sharp and hit the turkey broadside where the leg is attached to the body.   Best of luck.  Swabby

Nobody is hunting them? I had 3 toms at 30 yards but couldn't get them to come any closer. I set my blind and decoy up in the middle of a field to see if they would come to the decoy. I had 1 tom that looked like he wanted to come really bad but headed into the woods. I set my blind in a spot with some better cover and will try again tomorrow. Saw 6 a hundred yards from my new spot on the way out. Had a great day!

When I lived in NY... Long Island.... They wouldn't let us hunt turkeys bc there wasnt a season... Said they didnt build back their population...LOL .  I once counted 278 while sitting in my ground blind in a 6 hour period. Your area looks sweet... Good luck to ya...

I live in PA about 10 or 15 miles from the state line.  I always get my non-res small game and turkey tags (had to take out a second mortgage this year to do it) but typically don't hunt the fall birds there.  I have a hard enough time getting to hunt fall birds and deer here in PA without travelling.  I do hunt them in the spring in NY though.

Best of luck to you, that looks like some prime property.

I typically spot and stalk, or try to, in the fall. Either that or wait for them to come by a stand or ground blind...

What type of calling are you doing Brian? I have never used a deke in the fall, but seems like it should work.
This time of year, try to find a white oak.

Ive been going after them since the 1st. Got a flock behind my house but I have a feeling theres going to the fields where I cant hunt. Our turkeys are pretty educated so their hard to call in but ive been doing a mixure of soft feeding calls and some kee kees.

My woods are covered with acorns so they could be anywhere I found some good sign but I think its gonna be hard with all the feed.

The best tactic for fall turkey is to break the flock up the wait about a half hour then try to call them back in.

I have called two big goblers in two years in a row in the fall. Both came in quiet. I start with some kee, kees. I then go to a real loud hen yelp, and then a series of cuts and aggravated hen yelps. I then put my call away and see what shows up. If I get a hen to respond I cut and yelp to her until she gets mad enough to come and see what is going on. Both methods have called in flocks of birds for me.

Dave, I completely agree...I live in eastern LI and we have tons of Turkeys!!!  Finally, they've opened a short 4 day season from Nov. 21 - Nov. 25.  The other day my fiance and I stalked up on one to about twenty yards and then backed out but man was it fun...Come the 21st I'll be after them.

I can't wait...!!!  Good luck to all...

We almost had them tonight. I heard the birds clucking as they were coming in to roost. They were coming straight to us only to fly up to roost about 55 yards away.

I will be hunting a diffirent area in the morning but we maybe back up there in the evening with the Double Bull this time.
