does anybody know if anyone still makes crotch stands?  I've still got my Screamin Eagle crotch stand, and would love to use it, but there's a lot of stand theft here and I'd hate to lose it.  Wish Screamin Eagle still made them. I'd get another.  It's really well made.

I looked all over several years ago but no one was making them. Got a couple of pictures of one  sent to me so I could build my own, but eventually located a Bear Creek brand, I believe it to be and bought it, used. I put it in a tree out back and climbed aboard, hmmm? That was my first impression. The stand 'can' be set stable and safe but I see how it could eat your lunch too, and the platform is dinky. I'd intended to use it only in some overgrown field areas of hackberry and bodark trees. Their low to the ground with plenty of branches to break a fall. As of yet, it still hangs in the garage and I spend my time hunting the bottomland from the ground or a Lonewolf. You'll find one if you keep asking around

Platform stands don't thrill me but I'm still keeping the one I have, its 'Not for Sale'

There is a guy making them on another trad site. He has photos of his stand

a friend has a Bear River crotch stand, and your right, the platform is SMALL compared to my old Screamin Eagle.  This style was probably pulled off the market because of liability issues. If I can find the proper square tubing I believe I can make one. Maybe a little bigger and better.

I've yet to see one made like the old Sceaming Eagle Centerfolds.  It's so small, I usually just carry mine in.  I tied a rope on it for a sling and put some felt strips on the area where the metal contacts when it's folded.
I know a guy who took his to a local metal fab shop and had a bunch of replicas made.....not to hard to do, but I know you need to find a certain type of piano hinge.

I think I saw those on another forum; I think they were called "Death Wish II."    Just the term "crotch stand" sounds painful.

Screaming eagle sounds like an appropriate name for a crotch stand.

Once had an old front tine tiller that was also appropriately name the "little Bronco"

Crotchstands and Centerfolds? Am I still at Trad Gang?  :bigsmyl:

Three Arrows

Of all the crotch stands made, I think the Screaming Eagle one was the most well made and stable.  I tied a rope or strap under the stand in a figure 8 to keep it from falling.  It is just a matter of knowing how much the tree will flex when you use one.  They allow you to make a smaller silouhette since you can lean on either side.  Bad thing is, no seat.

I had one back in the '80s marketed by a fellow here in Illinois.  Took a bad fall - not the stand's fault - but I never used it again.  Nice concept, but you better be careful how you set it up.
