will the 62" bow draw smoother or is there enough difference to tell.  thank you for any help you can give me.  jerry baker

depends alot on your draw length and how the limbs stack up. me personally i cant tell the difference between my hoyt gamemaster2(62") and my chekmate(56").

Jerry, as a general rule the 62" bow should pull smoother than the 60" bow BUT... you must take into consideration the design. As was stated some can tell no differance. I think that most well designed bows you can't tell much differance in smoothness. Finger pinch might come into play at the longer draw lengths (over 29") That sometimes gives the feeling that a bow is not smooth in reality it is smooth. In the end it is what you think and feel

i should have also noted that my draw length is 25" :)

As mentioned above the design will tell the tale. I have a 62" 52# @ 30" R&D LB (Cactus Cal) that has BOO limbs and is super smooth.

I also have a 64" LB with wider limbs and ELM as a core that is not as smooth to draw but shoots well.

I still have an older LB Hill style that is 57# at 29" or so that wil shake you fillings loose.

I also have a Norm Johnson (Blacktail) 66" Recurve 56# @ 30" BOO and Yew limb combo that is the smoothest drawing bow I have ever shot.

I will concur with the Blacktail. My first 66", 42# @ 30" Blacktail is the smoothest drawing recurve bow I've ever drawn. If a person has a long draw and doesn't mind the long wait to get one, a Blacktail is a dream and a joy to shoot. I was so impressed with the smooth draw of my first Blacktail that I ordered a second 66" Blacktail and it should be here around Halloween. It's going to be 35# @ 30".

My two cents is get the one that fits your shooting experience best either hunting or Target. At your draw I believe some bowyers might tell you you would get a little better performance from the 60" bow again depending on the design. Bowyers know their product the best I normaly take their advise, thanks Jerry.

Night Wing hope there will be some picture of the new Blacktail! I'm surprised Norm will build you a 66" bow. What is the wood combo? Or is it a surprise....

For an all around great shooting bow I have always preferred the 62" recurve. It gives you just a little more bow and string length to make it smoother drawing and shooting.

I always preferred 62" recurves. With that said I currently own a 62" BW PMA-V and a 60" Massie Model "M" recurve. At my 27 and 3/4" draw either will work just fine. Smooth and quick with no stack. The longer riser on the PMA makes more difference to me then the actual bow length. I'm real partial to the PMA design.

Is the Hill for sale???? I'll buy it if the price is right. That way you can keep your fillings. QUINT

Norm lists the 66" Elite TD on his recurve order form page. He told me he makes about 2 a month in this length. My first Blacktail TD is 66", 42# @ 30". The main riser wood is cocobolo footed with shedua separated by myrtle accents. The limbs are his standard bamboo covered by a veneer of stained red elm.

I can't post any photos of my first Blacktail because they're too large for this format now. I'll have to resize the 750 down to 600 and then post them some other time. I do have one photo in the proper size for this format and it's a photo of the riser.

My second Blacktail TD will be like the first with the exact same woods. The only difference, Norm is going to try and get me some orange cocobolo instead of the red I have have on my first Blacktail and the stained red elm veneer over the  bamboo limbs, the red elm will be stained a little darker than the shedua in the riser. It's going to be 66", 35# @ 30".

IN MY OPINION, drawing smoother has NOTHING to do with it.  You will never notice the difference (esp at 25"), unless you get one of each.  The REAL difference comes in accuracy.  A longer bow will always be more accurate, because you have less string on your fingers.  Viper has a picture of it in his book.

Guess that might be fact, not opinion.  Ever notice how many "short" longbows are for sale on this site?  Maybe word is out.

I'm not putting up with this guys shit and dogging me.

IMHO, at 25" draw length you probably will not be able to tell a difference in smoothness or accuracy for a given bow style.  The amount that your fingers are on the string, more or less, for a 2 difference difference in length is likely negligible.  If you plan on hunting with the bow, once again, 2" will probably not make much difference.  At your draw length for a hunting recurve in cover I would opt for the shorter model, but that is a personal choice.
