Hey guys-  Been shooting this Black Widow SA3 for 15 years. Had it refinished 5-6 yrs ago by BW.

I have noticed lately that the finish on the grip is getting soft- it almost seems like you can rub some of it off.

What's up?  I have NOT used any bug dope or anything else that I am aware of- but something is softening the finish.

Could it be wax that got on the finish from my new waxed string?  That just seems strange- never had such a thing in 22 years of trad.  I can even rub it with a cloth and it comes off dark brown. .  yikes.  What do I do?

Thanks

Bears can attack people- although fewer people have been killed by bears than in all WWI and WWII combined.

It may just be the friction and sweat from your hands...I have seen in some of my bows they get a smooth polish look where the hand wraps the grip area..Ever notice those door knobs that have a clear coat over brass peel and flake...Our hands have a lot of oils and such in them and it can affect the finish on things...It could be a lot of wax as you mentioned cause I get it everwhere after making my strings...Almost forgot to mention this, When you set a glass of water or some kind of drink on a coffee table you notice it leaves a ring...Some finish's soften with miosture but I would think Black Widow has a tuffer finish... Keefer's <")))><

I have seen several BW bows that have finish problems, either soft or it just starts to peel. Never when the finish is new but after several years.
Some never have any problems but some do. Maybe they had some bad finish at one time?  Haven't seen this recently just with some that were from the late 90's or so.
