GEORGE! OH GEORGE! Will you explain this to me in oldtimers?
I agree 110%!! The whole beauty of Traditional is the simplicity of it

Captain hindsight to the rescue!

"I agree 110%!! The whole beauty of Traditional is the simplicity of it" There is a difference between simplicity and wasting energy. The point is not to go into gpp and find the best ratio, it's to say you don't need so heavy of an arrow, and it won't get you any better penetration. 8-12gpp is simple and doesn't waste energy. 17gpp is just wasting energy.

Night Wing

Thought I would wade in on this one.

My 66", 42# @ 30" Blacktail TD recurve shoots a variety of 32" aluminum arrows with different tip weights. The two best are a 2213 with a tip weight of 160 grains and the finished arrow weighs 535 grains. This comes out to 12.73 grains per pound for the 2213. The other arrow is a 2215 with a 175 grain tip weight and the finished arrow weighs 579 grains. This comes out to 13.78 grains per pound for the 2215. No matter what target material, out to 25 yards, the 2215 "always" penetrates deeper than the 2213. I don't take any shots past 25 yards.
Blacktail TD Recurve: 66", 42# @ 30". Arrow: 32", 2212. PW: 75 Grains. AW: 421 Grains. GPP: 10.02
Blacktail TD Recurve: 66", 37# @ 30". Arrow: 32", 2212. PW: 75 Grains. AW: 421 Grains. GPP: 11.37

Raminshooter

It's not just the arrow weight that can pose a problem.  I have read that many bowyers are of the opinion that past a bow poundage of 75lbs you have a case of diminishing returns as well.  Just more food for thought.
Keep flinging those shafts!
