Just made all the arrangements for a late September black bear hunt in northwest Montana. No guide or outfitter, just some good friend's and the longbow. I have done this before in Montana and I get a big thrill glassing and stalking on a nice black bear. I am very excited and feel good about my upcoming hunt. The fun starts today with all planning. Who else is going for bear this fall  :archer:

Hey doctari, booking a black bear hunt north of you in Saskatchewan for the spring of 2010. Many color phase bears up there I hear. Love hunting bears with the longbow! Good luck to you on your hunt!

Where you heading to in Montana?

Good luck to you Flatshooter. I will be in the upper north west of Montana, in the rockies between Big fork and the Swan river valley. I hope to find some blue grouse along the way also, they are quite delicious in the dutch oven at camp.

That will be a beautiful hunt. The North Swan and North Missoins are incredible in September. I do a fair amount of hunting in the South end of the Swan and have been fortunate enough to take a couple really nice Mulie bucks out of there. Those high valleys are a magnet for all sorts of critters. Meados on the south slopes with dark timber on the opposing north side makes for good opportunity to put a stalk on things.

Lots of grouse up that way. Have fun!
Is it September yet?!

doctari,

Good luck with your hunt.

Though not this year, I usually hunt bears here in MN, but it's over bait. Spot and stalk really isn't an option due to lack of visability. I've always thought doing a spot and stalk would be awesome. I hope to see photos of you and your bear come Sept.

Best of luck to you too doctari. Be looking forward to trading stories.
