Hey folks,
I may have to find a new place to shoot for a while. We have a new neighbor taking up residence in one of our avacado trees.

A hummingbird!!! I guess it's not too much  trouble to take my practice to the range, instead of the back yard.

Had wood ducks nest in woodpecker hole in a beech tree in my yard this year. Flushed the hen duck setting while mowing the grass, but never got witness to the ducklings bail out of the hole. Is a long jump too of about 30 feet, would have been neat to see.

Killdeer

I have two nesting birds on my route, flushing from the mailboxes as I pull up. One is a house wren, the other a Carolina. Later in the season I will be shooing the snakes off the roads.

Stopped yesterday and moved a painted turtle from the middle of a suburban tract-house street. There are deer all over, and I identify the birds along the way by their calls. Makes life so much nicer having my friends around while I work!

Long, long afterward, in an oak I found the arrow, still unbroke;
And the song, from beginning to end, I found again in the heart of a friend.

Where I live I have seen that hummingbird nests are made of-or with: spider webs  - does that look like what this one you took a picture of did ?
THE VOICES HAVEN'T BOTHERED ME SINCE I STARTED POKING THEM WITH A Q-TIP.

Thanks for sharing,never seen a Hummingbird on a nest before.

Killdeer

I've seen the ruby-throats pulling cattail down out of the heads in spring, to use in their nests. Spider web seems a natural, as they can stick other stuff to it for camouflage. Awesome little birds!

We have the beautiful orange and black Baltimore Orioles nesting in one of our Maples just outside the back door. I enjoy their throaty calls.
