well I took my second Trad bird yesterday. Another really nice Tom and another unconventional hunt. I called a nice bird in to 3yds for my buddy and he dropped it for his first spring bird.....just not with trad gear. So now it's my turn and we had a lot of birds answering us but not coming in. we moved closer and it still didn't work. we decided to leave but could see 6 longbeards in the field all strutting around in some low grass surrounded by waist deep grass. i decided to try and see how close I could get. I slipped up and around them and started coming in behind a rock wall. i could only see one bird above the wall and closed the distance. I though it was closer than it was and shot just between his legs. He knew something was up and came out of strut. I shot again and held a little higher.....just skimming his back. He hopped off the wall and started down the hill into the tall grass. the other birds followed but they weren't spooked. when i knew they couldn't see me I ran to the wall and slipped over it picking up my arrow. The ground was soft and the head was in good shape. i eased up to my knees and could see the birds 35yds and heading away.......until I glanced over and saw a bird at 18yds circling around/away. i rose above the tall grass and shot. The shot was perfect and the bird made it 20yds before going down. As i ran to the bird I nearly steped on a hen in the tall grass and she flushed from under me. That was why these toms were there all day, she must have a nest there!

I figured out why I couldn't get the height right at first.....it was 32yds and i thought it was closer to 20yds.

This is the turkey on his back, entrance to the right side and exit of your left. The arrow took out the artery above the hip and then passed through the heart and lungs

Thanks guys! It's been a great season so far. I have put 13 mornings  out of 18 in the woods and still have to the 30th. I have 1 more CT tag and 2 NY tags still. I would love to fill one of them on video and now thats what my plan is.

I have been shooting my 49# @ 28" super shrew deluxe and 125 grain Snuffers on MFX 500's

Nice bird, and great shooting
The season gave him perfect mornings, hunter's moons and fields of freedom found only by walking them with a predator's stride.
