Spine Question

I want to work up a set of aluminum arrows for my 53# @ 28" Mojostick.The bow appears to be cut about 1/8" from center.My actual draw is 27".Would 2018's work with 250-300 grs up front or would I have to use 2016's?                                          

If the 2018 would work,any idea on the approximate length it would take?                                            

I see 3 Rivers has the 100 gr brass inserts now.Does anyone know if the 2016 size would also work in the 2018?Thanks a lot.

  I shoot a Kota t/d longbow 56@28 and is not cut to cennter. My draw 27".
A 28" 2018 with a 175gr point will bare shaft great, so 250-300 up front may make it on the weak side in your set up. But it may work. I would think the 2016 would be way under spined for 250 up front.

as the bow is cut 1/8th from center it will shoot a weaker spine than a bow cut to center or center shot.in all my bows that i have owned from 52/56# draw weight i have found that the 2016s shot by far the best.i tried 2018s,but they are way to stiff for a 53# bow imo,unless you want to shoot them long and realy load up the front to weaken them down.are you wanting to shoot a heavy arrow,with a lot of tip point weight,or are you just trying to weaken the 2018s down.regards,robert

Ideally,I'd like an arrow 600-650 grs with a good bit of weight up front but I'll settle for the closest thing that works.                    

This afternoon a friend came over and brought some 30" 2018's with 175,200 and 250 gr heads.3 fletched arrows and one bare shaft.              

Believe it or not,they all showed weak until I dug out some old 125 heads and that put the bare shaft in the group with the 3 fletched ones but just a hair low and right-at 13 yds..I need a few more shafts and need to do some more shooting.So far I'm surprised at the results.

a 2018 cut to 28" fletched with 5" feathers and insert instaled weights right at 400 grains,with 200 grains up front that gets you close to 600 grains.by cutting them down from 30" to 28" it will stiffen stiffen them up and move them back left.you could cut them down to 27 1/2 and that would stiffen them some more and maybe allow you to add some more point weight.idealy,its better to shoot an arrow that is a tad weak as oposed to shooting one that is to stiff.good luck.regards,robert

Thanks Robert.I appreciate the help.I need to get a few more shafts and do some more shooting.This gives me a little direction.
