I am shooting a cut to center 55#@28" Blacktail for this little experiment. I started out with 31"bop and 290gr tips=too weak, shaft hitting 6" right (I'm righthanded). Went to 190gr.=too weak. Cut down to 30"bop w/ 190gr. tip=still weak by 3". Went to 160gr. tips and they are hitting right of target by an 1" or so. The shaft is not flying straight though. At 20yds. the shaft turns at the last 6ft. or so hitting the target slightly off of perpendicular (nock left, point right). I'm thinking fletching them will stiffen them and they will be good to go...what do you think? Do I need to cut down more with the 160gr. tips and see if I can get them to straighten out more before fletching them?    :help:

You could always fletch one to see if it corrects the problem.

I only worry about 'where' they impact. Most of the time some 'tilt' is unavoidable at 20 yards.
Also Snag, did you spine them yourself?
You may be in for a surprise.......I know I was.

snag

Yeah, I thought I'd fletch a couple and shoot them.
Bjorn, I was told these were 100#. So, as usual, I checked them and they were withing 2#s of 95#. Really nice 11/32" 95# Surewood Shafts.

Another question...if I were to go with 175gr broadheads (as in Abowyer Brown Bears) do you think there will be a big difference in how the 15gr. heavier arrows w/ heads will fly? Might have to cut them down a little more probably..? I guess the only way to find out is to try them.

Bjorn

I found that there is a difference in how the 175 BB fly compared to 160 field points; it is not just the 15 gn-it is mostly the length IMO.

JRY309

Have you tried to build out the side plate alittle to see how they fly? Fletching them may stiffen alittle, like said try a couple fletched with the bare and see if they group together.

snag

Bjorn I think I'll fletch a few of these and see how they fly with 160gr. tips and some with the 175gr. heads. I forgot about building out the side plate. Thanks JRY309.

taper the final 10or so inches to take up some of the funny business-helped me some.
