Hello all.
I'm planning for a turkey bow and was curious something.

All things being equal (e.g. forward handle design, draw weight and length) which design is more likely to be more forgiving, a recurve or hybrid?

 Any opinions would be welcome.

thanks,
 Tom.

I have several short bows infact I don't see myself buying another bow over 58" again. I have/had Shrew longbows and recurve, Morrison Dakota and Cheyenne,Centaur longbow,BW PSA-X all 54" to 58" within the last year. To be honest they shot really well the Shrews are great overall short bows no finger pinch for me at 27" draw very easy to shot and super quiet bows. I have a 56" cheyenne which is super fast and quiet pl,us the extra riser weight of the 3 piece makes for good stable shooting.I have a set of 54" cheyenne limbs on order right now also.I think of all my bows my 56" BW PSA is really the most easy to shoot with accuracy and the draw is super, super smooth. The Cheyenne and centaur are faster though and quieter vs the PSA. The PSA is also only 52.5 inches long when strung tip to tip great in a blind and same length as my 54" shrew longbow strung. To me all the above bows are keepers one may be alittle better in one area but less in another. I guess if I could combine all the best from every bow into one I would never have to buy another bow again. I also just ordered a ACS one piece 56" longbow aand am looking forward to trying it out soon.

The RER Arroyo at 54" is a fantastic bow for any use, but especially so in a blind or treestand.  They're one of the finest shooting bows I've owned and before anyone says it I've owned more than a few!   :)

Tom : You had the perfect turkey bow when you had the Hoots recurve . I was late on that one or I would have had it :0)

If you take short recurves and hybrids as a group I dont think whether or not the string touches the limb is going to be the significant factor in determining relative "forgiveness."
Wherever you went - here you are.

I don't see any difference in 'forgiveness' between a well designed recurve or a hybrid.

I've thinned my herd of recurves though 'cause I don't like carrying a bowstringer.

And that's the only reason. -LP

The turkey probably won't might which one you chose...

T.L. Go with the 54" RER Arroyo. That bow was made for a turkey blind.

Hello all,
Thanks for all the replies. I have shot some short recurves but never a hybrid so I was curious which design would be less affected by a less than perfect release.

Hi Drewsbow, yes the Hoots recurve was  pretty sweet. I am considering another but in 56" once my shoulder heals up. It is a really sleek recurve, narrower than the Whisperstyk that went your way and just as quiet. Performance was up there as well.

Tom : I love that Whisperstick and have a hard time keeping it out of my sons hands. He wants to hunt turkey with it in May.I will be ordering a hoots some time before fall. Good luck on your search and heal fast    :wavey:
