How plentiful are these toothy fellas in Lake Champlain?Would it be worth buying a VT licence and do you only need a fishing license to bowfish for them.None to be found around here and even if I could theyre off limits. My cousins and I sure would love to shoot a few.

                 Thanks,Izzy

You need a hunting license. The sloughs have plenty of them starting this month, carp start getting thick too.

Izzy, your not going to get that Dryad all muddy are you?.....

Izzy, we generally don't start seeing the gar in the shallows till late May. The best action is any hot day w/ lots of sunshine, right thru till July. We bowfish out of a canoe w/ floats and a trolling motor so we concentrate in the back areas. I can point you to a few of my spots if you want. There's nothing more fun than finding a bunch of gar cruising on the surface. Sorry Dave, but all you need is a fishing liscense.

From the 2009 Regulations

"Shooting or Spearing: Shooting or spearing fish requires a hunting or combination license to take fish."

Doesn't NY and VT honor each others state's licenses on Champlain?

VTer

Dave, that refers to our "crazy" VT tradition of shooting fish w/ rifles. If you look in the Lake Champlain regs. table, you'll see the seperate season for it.
No-sage, not sure how that would work since NY dosn't allow you to shoot gar.

Yes, they are toothy critters. I think a one day non-res is $15
