Chase's first few arrows....

A couple short years ago, my life was a constant tailspin of working way too much, being less than a good husband, and focusing on the things in life that aren't that important.

Once I started down the path of traditional archery again I started to change my focus in life, but the birth of my first son really grounded me and opened my eyes. Now 2-1/2 short years later, my life is completely different thanks to regaining some much needed faith, some great new friends, a different job and a blue eyed wonder.

I never attempted to teach Chase to shot his bow, I let him play with his bow unstrung and he loves to hold my arrows and watch me shoot. His arrows are in the garage along with some of his toys and most of time there used for whacking worms after a rain, or chasing the neighbors cat out of our yard. The other day while playing outside with him, he came to me with his arrows and said "Dada I wanna shoot bow" in seconds i had his bow out and my wife with the camera.

I didn't expect much, but he grabbed his strung bow and pulled it every way he could with every ounce of toddler determination.  I just wanted him to see an arrow fly from the perspective of holding a bow in your hands. The magic worked and the look was priceless. My wife struggled to get good pictures, and we ended up with a cold dinner and very upset 3 month old little brother but some great memories.

I might never shoot a book whitetail, or stand over a downed Alaskan moose but that smile he had while picking up his arrows and holding his bow will always be one of my best memories.

Good on ya, Drew!  Enjoy this "season", and continue to take advantage of the days.  

My little boy was there just... yesterday... and now he is a 20 year-old college sophomore who just got engaged.  The arrow flinging opportunities are all too rare now, but THOSE were the days, and we took great advantage of them.  The relation remains, and I am so grateful!

He's one heck of scouting partner already, just hard to keep his voice down as he get's real excited and yells "DEER" or just laughs when he hears a turkey..of course I do the same thing but not out loud.
