Hey everybody, I have just recently jumped on the trad wagon and got kajillions of questions. First things first though, I need some pertinent info on my bow I just bought. It is a Bear Grizzly 45# @ 28" and has these numbers stamped on it: BG 01-222 AMO 58"

Can someone help me in determining the "recommended" brace height, and the age of the bow? Also, can another type string be used besides Dacron?

Thanks a ton, TF.

Can someone fill in the rest of the blanks maybe.

Thanks Jeremy for the year info.

I think the recommended brace for a Grizz is something like 7.5-8.5".The "sweet spot" on my sons' '70 Grizz seems to be 8".Not shore if yours is fastflite compatible...someone will probably be along to answer.

I recently acquired a Bear Kodiak of 60's vintage and set brace height at 7 3/4" which seemed to be standard for recurves, I thought, but after shooting this 50 -lb marvel, the best brace height for me seems to be at 8 1/2" - 9". I'm not sure where it is supposed to be but it sure works best for me at that height.

Sorry, the boy came up and grabbed me before I could give you any more info.  My '01 Grizz seemed to like a brace of 8-1/4".

Bear shipped that bow with a dacron string (my first trad bow was a new '01 Grizz) but the replacement string they sent with it was FF.  I shot mine with D97 and TS1 and like the way it behaved.

Thanks everyone for the feedback. I checked it this AM and the brace is just a bit over 8 1/4". It is shooting well at this height, but I am needing a new string and wanted to know before I set it up with a new string.

Thanks, TF
