I've built selfbows for 20 years.I built a bow for a gentlemen last year and I stain, oil, etc then I use wax and a hair dryed. Then a couple time a year I fire up the hair dryer. And remealt the wax into the bow. This guy did'nt want to be bother.Saw some supper glue laying on a shelf. And said I'll even take a supper glue seal.
It worked great just cover then sand with 400 grit sand paper to smooth out the bumps. It's totally water proof.Did one of my older bows then talked a friend into doing one if his bows.
Anyone else out there did this any other ways.Let me kmow.Works great as a sealer and like'ly it's a backing of some sorts.

Roy, I have finished arrows with superglue. I use it as a sealer on snakeskins before spraying and put a coat on open pored wood as a filler before final sanding and spraying. It works great....O.L.

How are you guys applying the super glue on bows and shafts?  Do you wipe it on, thin it with something, brush, or what?

Does the super glue have enough elasticity to be used to seal the limbs, or are you only using it over the riser wood?

I just wipe it on with my finger with rubber a glove. I will put on 2 coats before sanding when I am trying to fill pores then start with320 grit to take off the high spots and finish with 400. Seems to work fine on limbs.

Another superglue trick (CA), those that use those 1 1/2" fiber cut off wheels on a Dremal to cut glass, carbon, or what ever, soak them with thin CA on both sides. Not much, just enought to wick into the fibers. It will double or tripple the life of them....O.L.

Hey , I learned something again. Thanks O.L for the tip on the cut-off wheels. I love learning!

I especially use it on woods like bocote, cocobolo and other wood that tru-oil won't cure on and it totally takes care of that problem.

Just be careful using it.  Not only are the fumes bad to breathe, but they also irritate your eyes.
