Effect of Bow Quiver on Tuning

Now that hockey has ended its time for me to get back to my bow and tuning it better. It is 47# at my draw length of 29.25". I have it pretty much figured out that im going to be using the CX Heritage 250's with some weight up front. My question is adding a bow quiver will affect the tuning which way? Will it make me need a weaker or stiffer spined arrow? And how much will it affect it either way?

Tune with the quiver on with arrows in it and then you'll be set.

Limb mounted bow quivers seem to make the arrow a little stiffer or at least they do for me in my testing . You still my be able to get by with the arrows you normaly shoot but if not just up the point weight some to weaken the spine and you should be ok .

If you have any 150's around you might want to give them a try..

A quiver or added weight to the bow will make your arrow spine act stiffer, I believe.

I know this wasn't your question..but I think Pat is onto something. The 250s for 47# draw weight seems heavy in spine especially if you cut them down to 29.25". I don't think you can add enough weight upfront to make them tune really well.

The added weight will make the arrow act stiffer so you MAY need a weaker or lower spined arrow, but likely not more than 5 lb. The heavier the riser, like on a T/D recurve, the less effect the quiver and arrows will have. Be sure to load the quiver with arrows minus one when tuning.

my draw length is 29.25 not the arrows. im thinking that the finished arrows will be either 30" or 31". 150's spine at about 53lbs. Using O.L.'s tuning page i gathered that the spine of any arrow i consider needs to be about 57-58lbs.

Thanks for all the answers. Just to clarify a bow quiver will make any arrow act stiffer? My bow is a one piece recurve.

Oh and what type of bow quiver would yall recommend, a selway quick detach or others?

Makes no difference for me, on or off.

My favourite bow quiver is the Selway slide-on or Thunderhorn limb-bolt-on.

If I have to use a bow quiver it is a GN mounted on the riser. And tune with the quiver on for sure.

I like the Eagle's Flight quivers and I did not notice any change in arow flight. The extra weight made the bow a little more stable.

I always noticed that with a slide on quiver as I shot the quiver would slide past the fade outs making the limbs slower and making the arrow act stiffer. Also you might want to think about trying 150's first.

Quivers (limb mount) always make the arrows seem stiffer to me. I think 150's are the way to go for you, unless you plan on putting 450 grains up front or more. I shoot 150's @ 29.25 with 175 up front out of a 50lb recurve that I draw about 28 1/2", so a bit more than 50lbs. I tried some 250s at 30", and they were still stiff w/ 350 grns up front.
