Okay I wonder what others would do...

I have a Martin Savannah that I started out with and don't want to sell unless I absolutely had to. I learned how to shoot traditional on this bow and it means a lot to me. But I've bought some custom bows and don't know how much I'll use it going forward. I'll shoot it at least once a month or more for sure but will more than likely use others to hunt with. I have nothing against it but I like my others more.

So with that said...would you customize it a bit? I'm thinking about adding snakeskin's and a leather grip. I'm not so concerned with resale value since I don't plan on selling it...I'm assuming if I do this it would decrease the value of the bow.

Just thought it would be neat to do and would make it look different...which according to my wife is something I'm good at, not sure what she meant by that!

If you ask me, skinning it will only increase the value. Especially if it is a good job. Just my $.02

Why don't you make it a fishing rig or something? I don't see the point in having something unless you're gonna use it.
Or do someone a favour and give it to them top get them into archery.

That is a tough call. If you go ahead and change it, will it loose some of its original appeal. But if you go ahead and change it will you enjoy the process and grow to enjoy the bow more?

I would say go for it, putting a personal touch on things is fun and it makes it your own.

I say do it-- Just another way to connect with and enjoy a old friend. Someday you will share this friend by passing him along. Afterall, it's not all that satisfying selling an old friend - the money somehow tends to cheapen the value of this bow. Someday, you may pass it on to a son, a grandson, or some kindred spirit, who will come to value it as you do. The passing along of this bow will in such a manner will be far more fullfilling--just another pleasure the bow will have given you. Just my humble opinion.

I think it would make it look nice...I still need to get a deer with it. I think I'll use it for a season down the road so I may go ahead and do it.

Be nice to see all done up plus as chuck said I may have a son or daughter down the road that could use it.

Keep it and dress it up to suit you. Take it from a person who gave away his first trad bow, to my son-in-law, and his second trad bow, to my son, that I came to regret giving away the first bow. But, I've since bought two more bows as keepsakes from the elderly gentleman who built the first one for me.

I presently own three bows that I'll never sell. A Bob Jones 3-PC T/D recurve, a Bob Jones Hill style longbow and a Bill Stewart MultiCam T/D target bow. I don't shoot any of them, but I keep them for sentimental reasons.

Well as long as it is not eating and you don't need the money stick it in a corner.:)Out taste in bows change often and one day you might just pick it up again.

As far as dressing it up..that is your call.I never let potential resale vale influence me in anything I own.

If you don't need to sell it, then don't. I would use it for stumping, fishing, heck get a deer with that thang.

Keep it ,dress it up have fun,hunt small game, stump shoot, do some 3-d's, start a stable of bows you like. Did I mention have fun!!! Skin that bow, it may become your go to bow!

I know how you feel.I have two bear grizzlies that will never be sold.A 45# one that was my dad's first bow,and the bow I used to take my first bow deer(Unfortunately the limb split otherwise I'd still be shooting it),and the 50# one I shoot now that was my first bow.

Me personally I wouldn't touch them as far as mods go.If you want to get into modding a bow I say buy a cheap something to work on.Not your first bow.

I say what he said, you could make a fine bowfishing rig out of it.

Josh, you'v got to at least put a leather grip on it, you know maybe with a few beads and such. Dress it up and give it some personality. I'd keep it. I'd put skins on my Savannah if the Zebra wood didnt look so good.

I do not think that the leather grip would hurt value if you want to sell the bow later, as for skins it all is in the eye of the beholder. As a savanna owner/shooter just have fun with it, good luck.
