snuffer question

can i get by using 160 grain snuffers with like 47 lb bow or do i need more bow to get enough penatration my bow is 50 lbs at 28 and i draw 27 would like to use them thought i would ask you guys and see what you thought thanks

I have the 125 grain snuffer and shoot them out of one of my HH longbows that I pull 47# @ 29". I have not taken anything with them but, they fly real well when shooting into my broad head target. I would think that 160 might be heavy but, I'm not an expert. I'm sure someone with better input will be along shortly.

What are you attaching them to? The arrow will make a difference as well. It is not too much up front as long as the total weight is manageable. I shoot a 170 grain woodsman on a 1916 cut 29.5" from my 46# @ 28" Kanati and I draw 28". They shoot great and leave great blood trails.

I haven't tried the 160 snuffer, but did take a doe with a 125. That was with my Mahaska though and 4560 carbons. The arrow stopped after penetrating about 4"...into the ground on the other side! They punch a big hole on both sides. Easy trail, and short!

You should be able to put together a combination with high FOC with your 160's. I wouldn't be a bit afraid to shoot them out of a 47# bow. I assume you will be after whitetails. That combo should do the trick for you. Just get them scary sharp and shoot straight!

I`ve killed 4 hogs this year with 145 grain snuffers on steel adapters out of longbows in the 48@ 27 range. 2018 arrows. The broadhead came out the other side of all 4.RC

I am shooting 125 gr. Snuffers with 75 gr. steel inserts (the good ones! LOL!) and I am very pleased with them. They shoot well out of my 48#@28" Rose Oak takedown and equally well with the 53#@28" limbs. They are mounted on 29" to bop Beman 400 carbons. Love them Snuffers! Mike

well great ever body tells me that i have to use a 2 blade but i never had that great of a blood tril with them that why i wanted to go with a big snuffer

Your set-up is very similar to what I'm going to use this year. I felt that in exchange for the 47# bow weight,I want to use a heavy arrow because of the Snuffer. Out of a 47# Black Widow HS, a 29" 4560 CX Terminator with 300 grains up front flies very well for me. It weighs around 600 grains. I was hoping for 525-550 grains, but the 600 grains bare shafts best. The bow is nice and quiet, too. I want the heavy arrow with heavy FOC for penetration with the Snuffer. I don't feel that'll be an issue on whitetails with this combination. Good luck.

I agree with knobby on the heavy arrow ,mine are about 650 grains.RC
