Hey ya'll I'm hopin you guys have a couple of answers for a trad noobie.  :knothead:
1. I need to pick a good spine for wooden arrows for my bow. I shoot a Bear Grizzly 50# 58". I have no preference for the weight of the tips. Also, who makes some good wooden arrows? I was looking at either 3Rivers or Surewood Shafts.
2. Where's a good place to get a feather clipper?
3. Do I use R/W or L/W? I'm a right handed shooter   :banghead:

Thanks Trad Gurus!

Doesn't make any difference whether you use right or left wing feathers, just don't mix them on the same arrow.  Do you have a fletcher?  If so, there should be writing on the clamp indicating whether it is right wing or left wing.  Buy feathers accordingly.

Newer Bear Grizzlys are cut to center or more so can go a little heavier with spine.  If you draw 28 inches, 55-60# spine should work fine with standard size 125-145 grain heads.  If you draw less than 28 inches, say 27 inches, go with 50-55#.  If you draw more than 28 inches, for example 29 inches, go with 60-65#.  If you happen to have a fast flite string on your bow, increase the weight by 5# more.

Hard to find good cedar anymore regardless of who is selling it.  Sitka spruce will generally have straighter grain, though, in general, it will be a little lighter, physically, than cedar of the same spine.  About the same strength as cedar.

Good luck.

Thanks. I know it's an older Grizzly, if that makes any difference.
What kind of fletcher is a good one for feathers?

I appreciate the help guys!

Bitzenberger is the best in my opininon, though it is also the most expensive.

Hey Redneck! Call 3-Rivers or Kustom king and tell them what you have, order a test kit, take these and shoot them and see which shoots best. What is your draw length? do you draw 28 or more or less? All that makes a difference!Do some searches on here and read about arrows ( carbon, alum. etc.) that will give you a better feel for stuff. Good luck!
