Hello my fellow TradGangers...  Let me start by saying that I shoot a 66" recurve and longbows. I have always shot this lenght bows.  I see alot of people shooting bows at 58". I fully understand all that both have to offer. Just woundering/ thinking about shooting a shorter bow 60".  my draw is 29".. I hunt out west so lenght has never been an issue, just looking for your insite/take on this matter. I'm looking at a KOTA T/D longbow, 60"  Thanks in advance

mark,  don't want to get into a performance/efficiency debate but it's been my understanding that a bow is most efficient when it is drawn to the point right before it begins to stack. w/ your 29" draw anything over 60-62" would only be necessary for extra/added  stability if you had trouble shooting a 60-62" bow. of course there's always trade-off's and you have to find the right combo for you but if stability isn't an issue i'd definitely check out that KOTA.

I'm drawing 29 also and that is to the rest. I have found my accurate bow in inches is 62 in. and anything shorter I do not shoot as well. Shane

I'm shooting a 58in bow and considering moving up to 64in. I seem to be able to pull a higher draw weight more smoothly with the longer bow.  I'll continue testing this theory at the WV expo at the end of the month.  Love my current bow, but at the very least I'm finding a psychological difference with a longer bow.  Also, everything I have read from the Bowyers Bible vol 3 (so far) suggests people used shorter bows for specific purposes.  Example; shooting from horseback.  As always, I think it all goes back to personal opinion and what feels good to you.  Just my 2 cents.......Charlie

You could always get an extra set of 62" limbs.

QuoteI hunt out west so lenght has never been an issue,
That should pretty much answer it.  :)  No reason to use a shorter bow.If a long one fits a short bow has no benefits to offer other than fitting in a blind. jmo
....Quality deer management means shooting them before they get tough....

FWIW: My son and I have a father/son set of take down Chameleon shrews--mine is 56" and his is 54".  At my draw length, they are similar in draw weight.
I find that I actually like the "feel" of my son's bow a tad better than mine, but it may be the missing 2" makes it more maneuverable.

YMMV
Without geometry, life is pointless.
