Getting into traditional and just purchased a kodiak magnum.  It is the green "futurewood" with the blue stripe.  The bow itself is in good shape, but the color is faded.  Any advise on what I can do to refinish the bow?  Or should I just leave it the way it is?

I like to dull that shiny finish with light sandpaper or steel wool, then spray on a couple coats of matte finish such as clear or satin polyurethane.

I agree with John.  It would be a good candidate for camo dipping.  It's a good little bow but no real collectors value.  If you don't want to camo dip, do some light sanding and then hit it with some spray on poly or true oil.

You may want to move this post over to the collecters section and check it out.Sounds like your bow is a 1975-1976 they ai'nt makeing them anymore and it may be worth fixing up...bowdoc

If you camo dip it, it will be worthless as a collector bow.  If it is just faded, steel wool it lightly and overspray it with some satin poly.
That will keep the silk screens and other markings intact for selling at a later date if that is a concern.  Camo won't do anything a satin spray won't, except take away the character of the original bow.

I'm not going to camo dip the bow.  I just want to clean it up because the green has faded.  Is it possible remove the green color and then use tru oil on the wood?

d. ward

The green color is atcually dyed epoxy vacaumed all the way through the wood its the same color no matter how deep you sand it.The fadeing your seeing could be the old finish.Would it be possible for you to load a couple pics ? bd

bulldogto

I have pics, but not sure how to load them.  I can email them to you

I've recently acquired a Bear that was redone by Bowdoc and I now have a better appreciation for these bows.  I'm so glad my Super Kodiak is not dipped in anything.  It seems like such a permanent "solution".  Not nocking the process at all, but were I you, I would reserve it for another bow.
Do or do not ... there is no "try"
