Bucks dont stay in the area thier born.  Travel an avg. of 7-10 miles before setting up a new home range somewhere between the ages of 6mo to 1.5 yrs of age.  The lower the doe #s in an area the easier the bucks are to see. If they dont have to search hard for a girl they tend not to start moving till dark.  When a big boy shows up he can usually take what he wants.  To each his own I guess.

I would actually take the exact opposite of cottonwood it I really wanted to manage/control a herd.

As it turns out I shoot what walks in front of me. (save for spikes and little 4 points)

I don't get to scout much and timber-cutters have changed/erased my intimate knowledge of the ground back home where I hunt most of the time.

Due to that I simply set up on funnels.   I love creek crossings.  For some reason deer do not equate water with danger and I've been known to literally stand IN a creek back home.  I has steep 20' sides and is only a foot deep in most areas.
