How often to change my bowstring?

I keep my longbow strung up in the garage with the bow quiver fully loaded, so every time I park the truck, I pull it off the hook and shoot a couple of arrows down toward my target (night, day, whenever).

How often should I change the bowstring?  Can I order a bowstring from 3 Rivers or whatever?  What kind of info do I need to provide?

I change my bow string when they look worn, the newer low stretch materials last much longer.I wax my string periodcally and inspect it.You keep your bow strung up in the garage,is it hot in there? It doesn't hurt to leave a bow strung that you shoot often but not in a hot garage if that is the case,it could damage the bow.

Nope...I live in the mountains..if anything, it gets cold in there.  :)

The string is looking a little worn where I nock, but the rest is good (I got some of the wax and put it on the string...but should I wax the WHOLE string or just where the nock point is?)

Curveman

Whole string. I try to change my strings about every year or so. It's low money for safety or the string breaking at the wrong time I figure.
